Endoscopic diagnostics

Endoscopy & cystoscopy

Painless cystoscopy with state-of-the-art equipment – directly in our surgery in Vienna.

Cystoscopy

What is a cystoscopy?

During cystoscopy, our specialists examine the bladder using a special endoscopic instrument - the Cystoscope. This is carefully inserted via the urethra so that the bladder and urethra are visible from the inside.

This investigation enables a detailed assessment of the mucous membrane and structure of the bladder and urethra. This allows changes to be detected early and treated in a targeted manner.

Indications

When is a cystoscopy necessary?

Blut im Urin (Hämaturie)

Visible or invisible blood in the urine can indicate various diseases. A cystoscopy helps to reliably clarify the cause.

Tumors of the urinary bladder

Cystoscopy is the most important procedure for the detection and aftercare of bladder tumors. Suspicious changes become directly visible.

Stones & constrictions

Urethral constrictions (strictures) and stones in the bladder or urethra can be reliably diagnosed endoscopically and often treated immediately.

Anatomical changes

Structural features of the bladder and urethra are detected during cystoscopy and can be treated in a targeted manner.

Inflammation of the mucous membranes

Chronic or recurring inflammation of the urethral mucosa can be accurately assessed and documented with cystoscopy.

Sphincter function

Changes in sphincter function - for example in incontinence - can be assessed endoscopically and form the basis for targeted therapy.

Outpatient in our surgery

A cystoscopy can be performed directly in the CompetenceCenter UROMED and does not require hospitalization. In addition, cystoscopy is an essential part of the Diagnostics and aftercare for bladder cancer.

After certain kidney or ureteral stone operations, a ureteral stent is inserted in hospital. These stents can be inserted at UROMED as part of a cystoscopy pain-free within 1–2 minutes be removed.

Is a cystoscopy painful?

At UROMED we guarantee a painless cystoscopy. By using different procedures for men and women, we ensure that the examination is as comfortable as possible.

First, the urethra is disinfected. Then a Lubricant with mild local anesthetic is inserted. The cystoscope is then carefully inserted.

Women

Rigid cystoscopy – the short, straight female urethra enables a quick and uncomplicated examination.

Men

Flexible cystoscopy – the flexible instrument follows the curved course of the male urethra particularly gently.
